Read the full storyOn 12 April 2026, a man went into cardiac arrest on the beach at Seaside, Florida. Lifeguards and firefighters from the area responded, and the patient regained a pulse. He later began breathing on his own, and the South Walton Fire District says he is expected to make a full recovery. In June the district recognised four lifeguards and seven firefighters with Lifesaving Awards for their part in the response. Cardiac arrest on a beach is a race against time, and a quick response by people trained to act is often what makes the difference. The award ceremony and the district's announcement are reported by 1st Responder News.
Why we picked this: The people who respond quickly rarely get the headline. Here they are named, and the patient is expected to recover.
