Read the full storyBrazilian authorities have enlarged the Pantanal Matogrossense National Park by 185 square miles, an increase of more than 25 per cent on its original 523 square miles. The Pantanal is one of the richest and most sensitive wetland regions on the planet, and the park is run by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). Expanding a protected area gives wildlife more room and keeps more of the wetland safe from development. The change was first reported by the Brazilian outlet Fato Paulista, and Good News Network's article gives the background to the decision.
